Rangers Legend James Tavernier Nears Move to Maccabi Tel Aviv

Maccabi Tel Aviv is on the verge of signing James Tavernier, a prominent figure from Scottish club Rangers, as a free agent, according to football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The English right-back, who has captained Rangers for the past decade, is expected to arrive in Israel for medical examinations.

Tavernier, 34, concluded an 11-year tenure with Rangers this summer upon the expiration of his contract. He was also reportedly a target for Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer. During his time at Rangers, Tavernier became a symbol of the club, with former Maccabi Tel Aviv coach Kenny Miller praising his significant contributions both on and off the field, highlighting his physical attributes, scoring prowess, and strong character.

Originally from Bradford, England, Tavernier began his career at Newcastle United before loan spells at various clubs, including Sheffield Wednesday and Milton Keynes Dons. He made a permanent move to Wigan Athletic in 2014, followed by a loan to Bristol City. His decade-long stint at Rangers saw him become a cornerstone of the team, and in the previous season, he scored 14 goals and provided six assists from his right-back position in the Scottish Premiership.
