Rangers Star James Tavernier Nears Maccabi Tel Aviv Move
English defender James Tavernier, a long-time star for Scottish club Rangers, is reportedly on the verge of joining Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv. The transfer comes as Tavernier becomes a free agent after 11 years with Rangers.
While Tavernier's salary at Maccabi Tel Aviv has not yet been disclosed, it is expected to be significantly lower than his previous earnings. His most recent four-year contract with Rangers was worth approximately £1.6 million per season, with his total earnings from that deal, including bonuses, reaching £8.1 million.
In the seasons leading up to his final contract, Tavernier earned varying amounts, starting below £500,000 per season in his earlier years with the club. In the year before his new contract in 2022, he earned £1.25 million, and in the two years prior to that, he made around £730,000 annually.
The news of his potential move to Maccabi Tel Aviv was surprisingly reported by Fabrizio Romano.
