IDF and Shin Bet Eliminate Hamas Finance Chief in Gaza
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet security agency conducted an operation in the Khan Younis area of southern Gaza, eliminating a key figure in Hamas's financial operations, Muhammad Abu Alwan. Abu Alwan, identified as the director of Hamas's finance department, had been active for about a decade and was responsible for budgeting the terror group's various operational arrays.
During the recent war, Abu Alwan directed the transfer of over one billion shekels (approximately $270 million USD) to fund Hamas's activities. The IDF and Shin Bet stated that he played a crucial role in preserving Hamas's governance and survival. Recently, he had been working to restore Hamas's capabilities, systematically violating the ceasefire agreement.
The operation to eliminate Abu Alwan was carried out to neutralize the threat he posed. The IDF and Shin Bet are continuing efforts to disrupt Hamas's funding mechanisms, prevent the rebuilding of its military infrastructure, and target financiers and money changers involved in hundreds of millions of dollars in illicit transfers.
Security forces in the Southern Command are deployed in the area and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threats.
