IDF and Shin Bet Eliminate Hamas Finance Chief in Khan Younis
The Israeli military and Shin Bet security agency announced Thursday the successful elimination of Muhammad Abu Alwan, identified as Hamas's finance department head, in an operation in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
According to Israeli security officials, Abu Alwan was responsible for budgeting all Hamas operations and, throughout the recent conflict, directly oversaw the transfer of over one billion shekels (approximately $270 million) to fund the organization's terror activities. He was also reportedly instrumental in maintaining Hamas's governance and survival.
In the period leading up to his death, Abu Alwan was actively working to rebuild Hamas's capabilities, allegedly in violation of a ceasefire agreement. The operation to eliminate him was reportedly carried out to neutralize this immediate threat.
Both the IDF and Shin Bet emphasized that efforts to disrupt Hamas's financial infrastructure are ongoing. These efforts include targeted strikes against terrorists and the network of money changers and facilitators involved in transferring hundreds of millions of dollars.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement praising the IDF and Shin Bet for the precise operation.
