Israel Neutralizes Hamas Finance Chief in Gaza Airstrike
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency announced Wednesday the elimination of Muhammad Abu Alwan, identified as the head of Hamas's finance department, in an airstrike in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
Abu Alwan had been active in Hamas's financial operations for approximately a decade, overseeing the budgeting for the entire terror organization's systems. During the ongoing war, he allegedly directed the transfer of over one billion shekels (approximately $270 million USD) to fund Hamas's activities, playing a crucial role in maintaining the group's governance and survival.
In recent times, Abu Alwan was reportedly working to rebuild Hamas's capabilities, systematically violating the ceasefire agreement. The strike was carried out to neutralize the threat he posed.
The IDF and Shin Bet stated they are continuing efforts to disrupt Hamas's funding mechanisms, prevent the restoration of its infrastructure and military capabilities, and eliminate terrorists and the network of money changers and facilitators involved in hundreds of millions of dollars in financial transfers.
Security forces in the Southern Command are deployed in the area according to the agreement and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threats.
