IDF and Shin Bet Eliminate Hamas Financial Chief Who Transferred Over Billion Shekels
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the General Security Service (Shin Bet) announced on September 23 that Muhammad Abu Alwan, head of Hamas's financial department, was eliminated in the Khan Yunis area. According to security forces, Abu Alwan joined Hamas's financial apparatus approximately ten years ago and was responsible for distributing funds among the organization's various units. The IDF and Shin Bet claim that over one billion shekels were transferred to finance Hamas's activities under Abu Alwan's leadership during the war. Israeli security forces estimate he played a significant role in maintaining the organization's operational capabilities and was recently involved in restoring its infrastructure.
The joint statement indicated that the elimination was carried out due to Abu Alwan's efforts to rebuild Hamas's capabilities, which Israel views as a systematic violation of the ceasefire agreement. The IDF and Shin Bet stated they will continue to target Hamas's financial infrastructure, including its network of exchange offices and intermediaries through which hundreds of millions of dollars are transferred.
