Maccabi Tel Aviv Fans Attack Spurs Call for Tougher Legal Action

Violent incidents erupted outside the stadium in Rehovot following Maccabi Tel Aviv's 5-2 victory over Hapoel Jerusalem on August 23. Videos circulating online showed a small group of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans assaulting others with clubs as they left the match. Erez Kalfon, chairman of the Israeli Football Leagues Administration, condemned the attacks and said he immediately demanded police action against the perpetrators. "Now that arrests have been made, the case moves to the prosecution and courts, and I sincerely hope severe indictments will be filed leading to harsh penalties," Kalfon stated. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the hospital and other assaulted fans.

The Israel Football Fans Association responded to the violence by emphasizing zero tolerance for such behavior and calling on authorities responsible for public order to take full responsibility and improve security measures. They stressed the need for fundamental changes to prevent future incidents and pledged ongoing efforts to ensure football matches remain safe environments. The league administration echoed these sentiments, urging all stakeholders to maintain safety in Israeli football.
