Israeli Cyclist Found Dead in Finland After Week-Long Search

The body of a 66-year-old Israeli man from Tel Aviv was discovered on the roadside in Finland about a week after he went missing during a solo cycling trip. According to local police, it is believed he was struck by a passing vehicle. After losing contact with the cyclist, search efforts were launched, culminating in the discovery of his body today. The exact circumstances of his death are still under investigation, but initial assessments suggest a traffic accident.

Following the report, ZAKA's international unit, in coordination with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local Finnish authorities, began working to arrange the necessary procedures for releasing the body and repatriating it to Israel. The Israeli consul in Helsinki is also assisting in expediting the process. The deceased is expected to be buried in Safed.

Chaim Wingarten, ZAKA's Deputy Operations Director, stated that from the moment they received the report, they have been supporting the family and coordinating with Finnish authorities to ensure the dignified return and burial of the deceased in Israel. ZAKA's international unit continues to work with relevant Finnish entities until the completion of all formalities and the transfer of the coffin to Israel.
