Weizmann Institute and Hebrew University Rank Among Top 100 Global Universities in Shanghai Ranking

Two Israeli institutions, the Weizmann Institute and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, have been ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide in the prestigious 2026 Shanghai Ranking. The Weizmann Institute secured the 71st position, maintaining its previous rank, while the Hebrew University was placed 89th, dropping one spot from 88th last year and down from 81st in 2024. The Technion, which had been included in the top 100 over the past two years, did not make the list this year.

The Shanghai Ranking evaluates over 2,500 universities globally, considering factors such as the number of Nobel Prize and Fields Medal laureates among alumni and faculty, highly cited researchers, and publications in leading scientific journals. The top three universities this year remain American: Harvard University in first place, Stanford University second, and MIT third. They are followed by the University of Cambridge in fourth and the University of California, Berkeley in fifth.

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon congratulated the Hebrew University on its achievement, stating that the ranking "strengthens its status as one of the leading research institutions in the world and reflects its excellence, innovation, and impact in the international academic arena."
