Weizmann Institute and Hebrew University Rank Among Top 100 Global Universities in Shanghai 2026

In the 2026 Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities, Israel maintains two representatives among the top 100 institutions worldwide. The Weizmann Institute of Science is ranked 71st globally, while the Hebrew University of Jerusalem holds the 89th position. However, Tel Aviv University, which was ranked 97th last year, has dropped out of the top 100 list this year.

The Shanghai ranking, regarded as one of the most prestigious and influential academic evaluations, assesses approximately 2,500 universities worldwide. It bases its rankings on various criteria including the quality and volume of scientific research, publications in leading journals, faculty and alumni achievements, and Nobel Prize and Fields Medal awards.

The top three universities remain unchanged from previous years, with Harvard University in first place, followed by Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in second and third places respectively. The continued presence of two Israeli universities in the global top 100 highlights the international standing of Israeli academic research, despite the reduced representation this year.
