According to meteorologist Reuven Castro, while summer rain itself is not rare in Israel, events with over 25 millimeters of rain in August are extremely uncommon, with only a few recorded instances since measurements began, including in 2012, 1971, and 1920.

Despite the localized severity, the vast majority of Israel experienced typical hot summer weather, with many unaware of the storm. Experts caution against directly linking this isolated event to climate change but note that global warming is expected to increase the frequency of extreme and localized weather events. The storm’s limited geographic scope yet significant impact highlights the complexity of weather patterns in the region.

Dani Roff, an Israeli TV presenter and meteorologist, emphasized that for those under the storm clouds, August 2026 felt more like October, underscoring the unusual nature of the event. This rare summer storm serves as a reminder of the variability and potential extremity of weather phenomena in Israel.
