Severe Heatwave Expected Across Israel With Temperatures Peaking Midweek
The Israeli Meteorological Service has issued a critical update warning of a severe heatwave approaching the region. Starting Monday, temperatures will rise above seasonal averages, with dry conditions expected in the country's interior. By Tuesday and Wednesday, intense heatwave conditions will develop, with mountain temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius, the Shfela region experiencing 37 to 38 degrees, and the Jordan Valley facing extreme heat of 45 to 46 degrees Celsius.
Coastal residents should prepare for heavy heat stress as well, despite little change in temperature, due to very high relative humidity levels along the coastal plain. This combination will create heavy to extreme heat burdens throughout the coastal strip. Some relief is anticipated only toward the end of the week.
On Thursday, temperatures will begin to gradually decline but will remain slightly above normal for mid-August. The heatwave poses significant challenges for public health and outdoor activities across Israel in the coming days.
