Family Alleges Neglect and Abuse of Wounded IDF Soldier at Rambam Hospital in Haifa

Three days after an IDF soldier was admitted to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa with severe burns and pain, his family has raised serious allegations about the treatment he received. According to a family member, during a shift change in the intensive care unit, only medical staff from the Arab sector remained on duty. The family claims they were asked to leave the ward and the doors were locked while four severely wounded soldiers were inside. They say their attempts to check on the soldiers' condition were denied, and one of the soldier's brothers reportedly broke into the ward out of concern. The soldier allegedly told his family that a staff member "lifted him like a sardine," slammed his head against the bed, and ignored his requests for water for some time.

These claims have not yet been fully verified. Defense Minister Israel Katz has ordered the IDF to urgently and thoroughly investigate the allegations, including the treatment of the injured soldiers and their families. Katz emphasized that if the claims are substantiated and serious misconduct is found, appropriate actions will be taken against those responsible and lessons will be learned to prevent recurrence.

Rambam Hospital responded by stating it employs a multicultural staff from various sectors and religions who care devotedly for the many wounded soldiers admitted throughout the conflict. The hospital said it takes all complaints seriously and investigates any claims of improper treatment but rejects accusations that disparage the medical team based on ethnic or sectarian grounds. The intensive care unit is closed to visitors except during designated hours to protect patients from infection and ensure focused care. However, the hospital noted that family members are allowed to stay with their loved ones beyond regular visiting hours and that the staff supports families and addresses their needs.
