Families Accuse Rambam Hospital of Neglecting Severely Wounded IDF Soldiers from Lebanon Conflict

Families of four Israeli Defense Forces soldiers severely wounded in Lebanon have accused Rambam Hospital in Haifa of providing inadequate and harsh treatment. According to relatives, the soldiers were left unattended and subjected to what they described as "brutal" care by the nursing staff. One family member recounted that a new Arabic-speaking nursing shift locked families out of the ward, leaving the soldiers isolated behind locked doors. He described his brother, who was sedated and intubated, awakening in pain and hallucinating, and claimed that when he tried to enter the ward to assist, he was refused access and witnessed his brother pleading for water with no staff nearby. The family also alleged rough handling of the patient, including being turned in bed violently and having his head struck against the bed frame.

The uncle of one soldier demanded an immediate investigation and preservation of security footage from the hospital to clarify why the doors were locked and families excluded. He questioned the hospital's security measures, emphasizing the need to protect wounded soldiers as vigilantly as they protect against external threats. In response, Defense Minister Yoav Ketz instructed the IDF to urgently investigate the claims and take appropriate action if the allegations prove true. Ketz stressed the importance of respectful and dedicated care for wounded soldiers and their families.

Rambam Hospital strongly denied the accusations, asserting that all patients, especially IDF soldiers, receive high-quality and professional treatment. The hospital noted that hundreds of wounded soldiers have been treated there recently, including those in critical condition, and that it takes all complaints seriously, conducting thorough investigations. They rejected claims of improper treatment.

MK Ahmad Tibi criticized the accusations as a racist campaign targeting Arabic-speaking medical staff at Israeli hospitals, praising the dedication of the ICU nurses at Rambam and condemning the allegations as baseless and harmful. He called on Rambam Hospital to publicly support its staff amid what he described as life-threatening attacks.

The controversy highlights tensions around care for wounded soldiers and the role of Arabic-speaking medical personnel in Israeli hospitals, with official investigations now underway to clarify the situation.
