Israeli Medical Leaders Condemn False Accusations Against Arab Staff at Rambam Hospital

Following a wave of defamatory claims against Arab medical staff at Rambam Hospital in Haifa, senior figures in Israel's healthcare system have strongly rejected the allegations as baseless and harmful. The controversy began after the brother of a soldier severely wounded in Lebanon posted on Instagram that Arabic-speaking staff locked department doors to families and treated patients roughly. Rambam Hospital conducted a thorough investigation and dismissed the claims entirely.

Healthcare leaders emphasized the unique coexistence and cooperation between Jewish and Arab medical personnel in Israeli hospitals. Professor Zion Hagai, chairman of the Israeli Medical Association, called the accusations a dangerous incitement that threatens the fabric of the healthcare system. He praised Arab doctors and staff as integral partners in strengthening both healthcare and Israeli society.

Professor Hagai Levin, head of the Public Health Physicians Association, described the social media falsehoods as a "blood libel" aimed at undermining the only functioning system of equality and sanity in Israel. He criticized politicians who exploited the incident for political gain, warning that such actions harm all patients regardless of background.

Other professional bodies, including the Israeli Association of Dermatology and the Israeli Surgical Association, echoed these sentiments. They condemned the use of ethnic or linguistic identity as grounds for suspicion or hostility and stressed that healthcare must remain free of political incitement and racism. The associations highlighted the longstanding collaboration among Jewish, Muslim, Christian, and Druze medical staff who have saved countless lives, including soldiers and terror victims.

The hospital and medical unions called for unity and respect, urging the public and politicians to await facts and refrain from divisive rhetoric. They reaffirmed their commitment to a safe, respectful work environment and to preserving the shared values of professionalism, humanity, and trust within Israel's healthcare system.
