Israeli Defense Minister Orders Urgent Probe Into Alleged Neglect of Wounded Soldier at Rambam Hospital

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has instructed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to urgently investigate serious allegations of inappropriate conduct by staff at Rambam Hospital towards wounded IDF soldiers. The directive follows social media claims accusing hospital personnel of neglect and disrespectful treatment of soldiers severely injured in combat in Lebanon and currently hospitalized at Rambam.

Minister Katz emphasized the importance of thorough and immediate examination of the complaints, particularly regarding the care provided to the injured soldiers and their families. He stated that if the allegations are confirmed, strict measures will be taken against those responsible, and lessons will be learned to prevent recurrence. "The brave IDF soldiers who were injured defending Israel deserve the best care and respectful treatment," Katz said.

The allegations surfaced from a post by the brother of a soldier critically wounded in southern Lebanon and admitted to Rambam's intensive care unit. The soldier, who had been sedated and ventilated, suffered severe burns and intense pain. According to the brother, during a night shift change, the Arabic-speaking medical team locked the ICU doors and ordered family members to leave. Despite their pleas to check on the soldier, the staff refused. The brother forced open the doors and found his sibling alone, pleading for water. He also reported that the medical staff handled the soldier roughly, turning him "like sardines" and striking his head without sensitivity to his condition.

Rambam Hospital has yet to respond to the allegations. The Defense Minister's office confirmed that the IDF will coordinate with all relevant parties to ensure a comprehensive review and accountability.
