Israeli Police Seek to Extend Detention of Eldar Dayan's Friends Over Murder Suspicion

Israeli police have requested a 15-day extension of the detention of Maksim Barberman and Omri Peretz, friends of Eldar Dayan, on suspicion of involvement in Dayan's murder. This development follows the discovery of a decomposed body near the last known location of the group, with identification and cause of death still pending at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine. Barbersman and Peretz were initially arrested after a violent incident in Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park last month, which included allegations of attempted vehicular assault and threats, including threats against Dayan himself.

Previously, the suspects faced charges related to endangering lives with a vehicle, obstruction of justice, and evidence tampering. The discovery of the body has led investigators to escalate the legal charges to include direct involvement in Dayan's death, despite the suspects' refusal to cooperate. Dayan's disappearance began after he sent a message to his family mentioning a violent altercation. Police conducted extensive searches over several weeks.

Defense attorneys Roy Lang and Guy Ein Tzvi argue that their clients remain detained without a clear resolution of Dayan's fate, while the family awaits the forensic results with anxiety. Further interrogations of the suspects are expected immediately following the detention extension hearing.
