Police Consider Upgrading Charges to Murder Against Eldar Dayan's Friends After Body Found

The investigation into the disappearance of Eldar Dayan from Dimona has taken a dramatic turn following the discovery of a decomposed body near the Yarkon interchange in central Israel. Police are now seriously considering upgrading the charges against Dayan's two detained friends, Maxim Barberman and Omri David Peretz, from lesser offenses to suspicion of murder. The two suspects, who have remained silent during questioning, were initially arrested for involvement in a violent altercation at Yarkon Park last month, which included allegations of attempted vehicular assault and threats.

The body was found close to the last known location of the group, prompting investigators to intensify their inquiry and bring the suspects in for renewed interrogation immediately after their detention was extended. The remains have been sent to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for identification and to determine the cause of death. Previously, the suspects faced charges related to endangering lives with a vehicle, obstruction of justice, and evidence tampering, as well as threatening Dayan himself.

The case began when Dayan sent a message to his family describing a chaotic situation involving a violent fight. Police conducted extensive searches for weeks without success. Meanwhile, the suspects' lawyers, Roy Lang and Guy Ein Tzvi, argue that their clients remain in custody despite the unresolved fate of Dayan, while the family anxiously awaits forensic results. The investigation is ongoing as authorities prepare to confront the suspects with the more serious murder allegations.
