Police Cannot Determine Cause of Eldar Dayan's Death, Murder Investigation Closed

Israeli police have concluded their investigation into the death of Eldar Dayan and informed his family that the cause of death cannot be definitively determined. According to the autopsy report, the body was found in a severely damaged state, making it impossible to establish how Dayan died. Consequently, the police will not pursue charges of murder or abandonment in connection with his death.

Two of Dayan's close friends, Maxim Braverman and Omri Peretz, who were initially suspected of murder, will no longer be investigated on those charges. They are set to be released from custody to house arrest under restrictive conditions. The investigation focused on a brawl involving Dayan and a group of youths from Petah Tikva, who were also initially detained on suspicion of causing serious injury. Those charges have been dropped, and they too will be placed under house arrest with the primary suspicion now limited to involvement in the fight.

The police met with Dayan's family at the Sharon District Police headquarters, where his mother and sister expressed distress and directed difficult questions at the investigators. A police source told N12 that due to the condition of Dayan's body, the forensic institute could not determine the exact cause of death. Without a clear cause, the police cannot continue investigating suspects for murder. However, the police and prosecution believe they can still file charges, though not for murder or abandonment.
