Israeli Police Extend Detention of Eldar Dayan's Friends Over Death Threats Amid Disappearance Probe

The Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court extended the detention of Omri Peretz and Maxim Berberman, friends of the missing Eldar Dayan, by four days. Dayan has been out of contact for over two weeks, and police suspect he may be in hiding. The investigation initially focused on Dayan's disappearance but has expanded to include criminal suspicions against his two friends.

Police representatives told the court that Peretz and Berberman are suspected of threatening Dayan with murder. The inquiry also examines an incident involving the alleged running over of other youths and possible obstruction of justice related to a vehicle connected to the case. Authorities believe releasing the suspects now could jeopardize the investigation.

Defense attorneys argued that the police have not presented sufficient grounds for continued detention, emphasizing that Dayan himself has not filed any complaint. They questioned who reported the threats if Dayan is missing, suggesting their clients are being held as "hostages" in the disappearance case. The court partially accepted the police request and extended the suspects' detention while the investigation continues into both Dayan's disappearance and the allegations against his friends.
