Police Suspect Eldar Dayan's Friends of Threatening to Kill Him Amid Disappearance Investigation

Two friends of Eldar Dayan, who gave conflicting statements during the investigation into his disappearance, are now suspected of threatening to kill him. The police have requested a one-week extension of their detention as part of the ongoing inquiry, according to a report by Israel Hayom. During the court hearing, police representative Yaniv Hindi stated that investigators are probing an incident where the suspects allegedly ran over five young people with a vehicle following a dispute. The suspects are also accused of threatening to murder the missing Dayan.

The suspects face multiple charges including endangering human life with a vehicle, conspiracy to commit a crime, assault, obstruction of justice, causing serious injury, reckless driving, and involvement in a brawl. Initially handled by the Dimona police station, the investigation was transferred last week to the Petah Tikva station. Earlier, the suspects' detention was extended by the Beersheba Magistrate's Court.

Evidence indicates that the two suspects traveled with Dayan from Dimona to Petah Tikva and were involved in a fight with several local residents. After the altercation, the three allegedly removed the license plates from their car and abandoned it at a gas station in Petah Tikva. While the two friends returned to Dimona, Dayan's whereabouts became unknown. Police suspect he may be hiding in a safe house, though the reasons remain unclear. Authorities believe the friends' testimonies could be crucial to resolving the circumstances of Dayan's disappearance.

Following the hearing, Judge Gil Gabai extended the suspects' detention by four days, citing reasonable suspicion of their involvement in the alleged crimes. Defense attorneys Guy Ein Tzvi and Roy Lang, representing the suspects through the public defender's office, stated that their clients appear to be held as hostages until Dayan is found and the police can obtain a clearer picture. They denied knowledge of any murder threats or involvement in the alleged vehicle assault and said their clients do not know Dayan's location.
