Israeli Police Demand Detention of Security Guard After Fan Assault at Toto Cup Match

Israeli police arrested a security guard on August 6 following an assault on a Hapoel Petah Tikva fan during a Toto Cup match against Maccabi Netanya. The guard was brought before a judge, with police requesting his detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings. The incident occurred amid a confrontation between security personnel and fans, sparked when security staff asked members of the Hapoel Petah Tikva fan organization to leave a stage area previously approved for them. The fans refused, leading to verbal altercations and escalating into physical violence. Several fans punched security staff, while the security guard struck a fan with a broken chair, and another security staff member hit a fan on the head with a baton. Following the brawl, three security personnel were detained, and investigators demanded identification from the stadium's security managers. The security guard who struck the fan fled the stadium but was later apprehended on a side street.
