Masked Gunmen Attack Transformer, Leaving Israeli Community Without Power Over 24 Hours

Residents of Neighborhood 1 in the Tel Sheva Regional Council have been without electricity since early Tuesday morning after masked assailants fired at a transformer, damaging the local power grid. Electricity company crews arrived Monday night to replace the damaged transformer, but repair work requiring traffic changes and road closures could not proceed due to the absence of police escort.

When crews returned Wednesday morning, they were confronted at the neighborhood entrance by masked men armed with long guns who threatened their safety. The electricity company reported that the threat forced the workers to abandon the repair efforts without completing them. A police complaint has been filed, with the company condemning any violence against its staff.

Currently, there is no estimated time for restoring power. A local resident told ynet that workers initially promised to finish by 5 p.m. but suddenly left the site. Despite police patrols near the area between Omer and Tel Sheva, no escort was provided, raising concerns about governance and the wellbeing of vulnerable residents including the elderly, sick, and children amid August heat. The electricity company and police are in communication, but the outage persists.
