Electric Company Installs New Transformer in Modiin Illit Within 24 Hours to Address Power Outages

Following a joint inspection by senior officials from the Electric Company and Modiin Illit municipality, a new transformer was installed in the Barakfeld neighborhood just one day after the visit. This rapid response aims to increase electricity supply capacity and alleviate heavy loads that caused repeated power outages affecting thousands of residents during recent Sabbaths. The installation was completed without interrupting power to residents, with municipal and Electric Company representatives closely monitoring the work.

During the inspection on Monday, officials identified illegal apartment splits and unreported unauthorized electrical connections that strain the infrastructure and risk further outages. Concurrently, the municipality plans to remove structures blocking ventilation openings at the local power station to ensure its proper operation.

Eli Yaloz, head of the Ayalon district at the Electric Company, stated that the new transformer was installed as agreed and that further steps, including removing obstructions and developing additional infrastructure, will continue to improve electricity reliability for the city’s residents.

In addition to the immediate solution, the Electric Company is advancing plans to add a high-voltage power line to strengthen the city’s grid and is collaborating with the municipality to identify suitable sites for new power stations to meet growing demand.

These measures follow extensive power outages last weekend, which left thousands without electricity from Friday afternoon through the Sabbath, causing significant hardship for families preparing for the holiday. Residents reported difficulties such as spoiled food and a gloomy atmosphere due to the prolonged blackout. The recent outages are part of a series of recurring electrical failures in Modiin Illit.
