Israel Connects IDF Outposts on Syrian Border to National Power Grid After 59 Years

Israel Electric Corporation (IEC), in cooperation with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), is currently undertaking a project to connect 12 military outposts along the Syrian border to the national electricity grid. Until now, these outposts relied on generators for power. The initiative, costing approximately 28 million shekels, aims to provide a stable and continuous electricity supply, reducing dependence on generators and their fuel logistics.

The project involves constructing about 41 kilometers of electrical infrastructure through challenging terrain and topography. So far, five outposts have been connected: Smakat, Tel Hazaka, Outpost 111, Outpost 160, and Nahal Golan. Work to connect two additional outposts, Tel Fares and Outpost 214, is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

Five more outposts, Outpost 117, Booster, Gadi, Outpost 105, and Tel Mahpi, are in the engineering planning phase, with connections scheduled for the upcoming months. IEC emphasized that this effort is part of its broader mission to develop critical national infrastructure and support the country’s needs both in routine times and emergencies, in close collaboration with the defense establishment.
