Israel Electric Corporation Officials Inspect Modiin Illit After Major Power Outages

Following a widespread power outage on Saturday evening that left thousands of residents in Modiin Illit without electricity for several hours, senior officials from the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) and representatives from the Modiin Illit municipality toured the city on Monday. The visit aimed to assess rapid solutions to the ongoing electricity supply problems and address the high levels of unauthorized electricity usage in the city.

During the inspection, officials identified critical overload points caused by illegal apartment subdivisions and unreported unauthorized electrical connections, which heavily strain the local power infrastructure and contributed to the outages. The IEC emphasized the need to simplify local planning processes and remove barriers to installing additional transformers to strengthen the city's electrical network.

As an immediate measure, the IEC plans to install a new transformer in the Achuzat Barkfeld neighborhood by Tuesday to increase supply capacity. Concurrently, the municipality will work to remove structures blocking ventilation openings at the existing power station to ensure its proper operation. Both the IEC and the municipality agreed to collaborate on locating a suitable site for a new power station and are advancing plans to add a high-voltage line to support Modiin Illit's growing electricity demand.

The joint efforts aim to deliver both short-term fixes and long-term improvements to enhance the reliability of electricity supply and meet the current and future needs of Modiin Illit's residents.
