Widespread Power Outage Disrupts Central Tel Aviv and Bat Yam

A major power outage struck central Tel Aviv and parts of Bat Yam on a busy morning, disrupting daily life and commerce in some of the city's busiest neighborhoods. The blackout affected areas including Bogroshov, Shenkin, King George, Allenby, Kerem HaTeimanim, Florentin, and parts of Bat Yam, leaving many businesses such as restaurants, cafes, butcher shops, and stores in Carmel and Levinsky markets without electricity.

The outage occurred without any prior warning during working hours, causing confusion and concern among residents and business owners. Initial uncertainty surrounded the cause of the failure, with speculation about a possible cyberattack, infrastructure collapse, or other technical issues. A local resident described the experience as particularly difficult due to the summer heat and lack of air conditioning.

The Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) later confirmed that the blackout was caused by a fault at a substation. IEC deployed reinforced teams to repair the damaged power line and expected to restore electricity within about an hour. The company emphasized its commitment to quickly resolving the issue and returning power to all affected areas.
