Major Nighttime Closures on Coastal and Ayalon Highways for Infrastructure Upgrades

The Israeli Ministry of Transport and Netivei Ayalon are implementing a series of full nighttime closures on the Coastal Highway (Highway 2) and Ayalon Highway (Highway 20) this week. These closures, part of the "Fast Lanes" project and the installation of new signage bridges, will take place during late night hours to minimize traffic congestion, with drivers redirected to alternative routes.

The schedule includes three key closures: from midnight to 5 a.m. on August 3-4, Highway 20 northbound will be completely closed between Rokach Interchange and KKL Interchange, with vehicles exiting at Rokach and re-entering at KKL. On August 4-5, Highway 2 southbound will close between Poleg and Wingate interchanges, diverting traffic via Highway 553 and then Highway 4; northbound traffic and access from Wingate will remain open. Finally, on August 5-6, Highway 2 southbound will close between Netanya Interchange and Gesher HaShalom Interchange, with drivers rerouted through Herzl Street and Ben Zvi Boulevard to rejoin at Gesher HaShalom.

Public transportation routes and stops in the affected areas will also be altered. Passengers are advised to check updates via the "Kol Kav" hotline (8787*) and relevant apps. Drivers are urged to plan ahead, use navigation apps, and select alternate routes during these overnight works.

Separately, a recent accident on Highway 2 in the north injured four people, including a 23-year-old in serious condition, underscoring the importance of caution on these busy roads.
