Ayalon and Coastal Highways to Close Overnight for Signage Work on Fast Lanes Project
Netivei Ayalon announced that as part of the ongoing "Fast Lanes" project, major closures will take place overnight on the Coastal Highway (Highway 2) and Ayalon Highway (Highway 20) this week for the installation of signage on dedicated bridges. Despite the late hours, these are key traffic arteries, and the closures will significantly impact traffic in the area.
On the night between Monday and Tuesday, August 3-4, from midnight to 5 a.m., Highway 20 northbound will be closed between Rokach Interchange and KKL Interchange. Traffic will be diverted to exit at Rokach, while entry to Highway 20 north from KKL Interchange will remain open.
On the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, August 4-5, from midnight to 5 a.m., the Coastal Highway southbound will close between Poleg Interchange and Wingate Interchange. Entry from Poleg to the southbound Coastal Highway will be blocked, with traffic rerouted via Highway 553 and then Highway 4. Entry from Poleg northbound and from Wingate southbound will remain open.
On the night between Wednesday and Thursday, August 5-6, from midnight to 5 a.m., the Coastal Highway southbound will close between Netanya Interchange and Gesher HaShalom Interchange in Netanya. Entry from Netanya Interchange southbound will be blocked, with traffic diverted through Herzl Street and Ben Tzvi Boulevard to Gesher HaShalom Interchange. Entry from Gesher HaShalom southbound will remain open.
Netivei Ayalon noted that temporary changes to public transportation routes and station locations will occur during the closures, advising commuters to check updates via the "Kol Kav" hotline (8787*) and public transport apps.
The first phase of the fast lanes project launched in April 2026 with an investment of about 8 billion shekels and continues infrastructure work. The ambitious plan includes a large "Park and Ride" facility in Shefayim with 7,000 free parking spaces and electric shuttles to major employment centers in Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan. By late 2026 or early 2027, the project will expand with new reversible lanes between Shefayim and Netanya and will introduce a dynamic toll system for private vehicles ranging from 7 to 105 shekels per segment.
