Israeli Forces Destroy Hezbollah Terror Tunnels in Southern Lebanon Near Northern Border

Israeli military forces have destroyed a network of Hezbollah terror tunnels located in the Bofor ridge area of southern Lebanon. The tunnels, which were part of Hezbollah's planned invasion strategy targeting northern Israeli communities in the Galilee, were demolished using approximately 700 tons of explosives. This operation is part of a broader systematic effort by Israel to eliminate Hezbollah's terror infrastructure in southern Lebanon.

The destruction of the tunnels follows a significant breach of the ceasefire agreement by Hezbollah, according to a joint statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz. They emphasized that Israel will not tolerate any violations of the ceasefire and warned that any attempt by Hezbollah to harm Israeli forces or civilians will be met with a severe response. Israeli forces will maintain their presence in the security zone in southern Lebanon and continue to dismantle terror infrastructures.

The targeted tunnel complex was a strategic command center built over two decades and served as the main operational base for Hezbollah's Badr unit, which is supported and directed by Iran's terror regime. The tunnels were situated about six kilometers from the Israeli border near Metula and the Galilee Panhandle and were used to launch drones, explosive-laden UAVs, and anti-tank missiles against Israel.

In recent weeks, Israeli troops have secured the Bofor ridge area, cleared underground facilities, and prepared them for demolition. On July 13, 2026, Israeli forces destroyed one tunnel, and the latest operation eliminated several more, effectively dismantling most of the tunnel network in the area. Some tunnels remain under close surveillance as Israeli forces remain on high alert for further operational developments.

The military operation was authorized by the Chief of Staff and involved careful planning to respond to evolving threats. Residents in northern Israel were warned in advance about the loud explosions resulting from the demolition activities.
