Israeli Forces Destroy Key Hezbollah Tunnel Network in South Lebanon Using 700 Tons of Explosives

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Israeli forces have destroyed the main underground tunnel infrastructure of Hezbollah in the Bofor ridge area of southern Lebanon. The tunnels, which were part of Hezbollah's planned invasion of Galilee communities, served as a central command center for the group's Badr unit. The operation involved detonating approximately 700 tons of explosives to demolish the extensive subterranean network.

According to the joint statement released on Friday night, the tunnel system was built over about two decades and included multiple levels. It was located roughly six kilometers from Metula and the Galilee Panhandle and had been used to launch dozens of drones, explosive-laden UAVs, and anti-tank missiles targeting Israeli forces and civilians. The destruction of these tunnels represents the elimination of most of Hezbollah's underground infrastructure in the Bofor ridge area.

The Israeli military's 36th Division, under the Northern Command, led the operation. The move was reportedly in response to Hezbollah's blatant violations of the ceasefire agreement. Netanyahu and Katz emphasized that Israel will not tolerate any breach of the ceasefire and warned that any attempt by Hezbollah to harm Israeli forces or civilians will be met with a severe response. Israeli troops will remain in the security zone in southern Lebanon and continue dismantling terrorist infrastructure threatening Israel.

Alongside the Bofor operation, Israeli forces are maintaining high alert and ongoing activity in the Ali Taher ridge area. The military released exclusive footage from the Bofor outpost showing soldiers preparing for combat and the detonation of the tunnels. Commanders from the Northern Command, the 36th Division, and the Combat Engineering Corps were present during the explosions.

This operation underscores Israel's commitment to preventing Hezbollah from using underground tunnels as strategic assets against Israeli territory and populations.
