Netanyahu Meets Trump at White House to Discuss Iran and Regional Security

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday evening for their eighth meeting since Trump’s re-election. The central focus of the discussions was Iran, particularly concerns over Tehran’s advancing nuclear program. Netanyahu was expected to present new sensitive intelligence regarding nuclear activity at the "Mount Kamush" site near the Natanz nuclear facility, including evidence of centrifuge transfers. Trump downplayed the significance of the site in a Fox News interview, emphasizing U.S. surveillance capabilities and expressing a preference to avoid military conflict, while acknowledging Iran’s willingness to negotiate.

The Israeli delegation included the military secretary, National Security Advisor, and Ambassador to the U.S. Yechiel Leiter. The American side featured Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Presidential Envoy Steve Whitkoff. No joint press conference was planned, and media access was limited.

Beyond Iran, the leaders discussed the situation in Gaza, with Israel expecting Trump to reaffirm that Hamas violates agreements by refusing to disarm. The meeting followed Israeli cabinet approval of political progress in Gaza and the deployment of an international stabilization force. They also addressed developments in Lebanon, potential arrangements with Hezbollah, and the expansion of the Abraham Accords. Another sensitive topic was the F-35 fighter jet deal with Turkey, which remains a concern for Israel.

During his Washington visit, Netanyahu and his wife Sarah attended a memorial dinner for the late Senator Lindsey Graham, honoring his legacy and support for Israel and the fight against antisemitism. Netanyahu described Graham as a "great patriot" and a close personal friend who will be deeply missed.

The meeting occurred as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was also at the White House, raising speculation about a possible trilateral discussion following a Ukrainian strike on an Iranian ship supplying drones to Syria, though no such meeting was confirmed.
