Netanyahu Meets Trump at White House to Discuss Iran and Regional Security

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on July 28 for their eighth meeting since Trump took office. The primary focus of their discussion was Iran, amid a temporary de-escalation between Tehran and Washington. Netanyahu planned to present intelligence on Iran's nuclear program, specifically regarding progress toward developing a nuclear bomb. However, Trump emphasized in a Fox News interview that he did not need Netanyahu to inform him about Iran's nuclear activities, stating the U.S. has the best surveillance technology and is fully aware of the situation.

A senior White House official explained that Trump's remarks were intended as a firm message to Netanyahu shortly before their meeting, partly in response to leaks from the Israeli Prime Minister's office about the intelligence Netanyahu intended to share. Netanyahu aimed to avoid appearing as if he was pushing the U.S. toward direct military confrontation with Iran.

The meeting was scheduled following the Israeli cabinet's approval of diplomatic progress in Gaza and the deployment of an international stabilization force (ISF) in the region. Netanyahu stated before his departure to Washington that he would discuss all relevant issues with Trump, especially Iran, with the goal of ensuring Israel's security and expanding peace in the region. He described his mission as securing the safety, strength, and future of Israel.
