IDF Imposes West Bank Curfew and Boosts Forces After Deadly Attack Near Tapuach

Following a deadly attack near the village of Tapuach in the Samaria region of the West Bank, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have declared a comprehensive curfew on troop movements and significantly increased their presence across the area. The move comes as part of preparations for an extensive operational response to the attack, which resulted in the deaths of four to five Palestinians and injuries to several others, including two Israelis.

The incident began early Friday morning when a group of hikers, including children, entered the southern part of Tapuach without prior coordination. A violent confrontation erupted between the hikers and local residents, involving gunfire in the air by some villagers. During the clash, a terrorist seized a soldier's weapon and fatally shot him. In the ensuing firefight, two terrorists were killed, including the shooter. All weapons involved, including the stolen firearm, were recovered by the IDF.

Security forces have intensified their operations in the West Bank, conducting raids overnight that led to the arrest of dozens of suspects linked to incitement and terrorist activities. Over the past week, more than 80 wanted individuals have been detained, including Hamas operatives, key agitators, stone and Molotov cocktail throwers, and militants involved in bomb-making.

The IDF and security agencies view the Tapuach incident as spontaneous rather than a premeditated ambush, but note rising tensions fueled by Iranian influence, arms smuggling, and increased clashes in the region. In response, curfews have been imposed on the villages of Tapuach and Burin, and preparations are underway for focused counterterrorism operations in Nablus and throughout the West Bank.

The Central Command Chief, Major General Avi Blot, and the West Bank Division Commander, Brigadier General Kobi Heller, have been present at the scene as the IDF escalates its efforts to restore calm and security in the area.
