IDF Imposes West Bank Exit Ban Ahead of Major Security Operation After Deadly Attack

Following a deadly attack near the village of Tal in the Samaria region of the West Bank, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have declared a comprehensive exit ban for soldiers and are significantly increasing troop presence across the area. The move comes as part of preparations for an extensive operational response to the attack, which resulted in the deaths of four to five Palestinians and injuries to several others, including two Israelis.

The incident began early Friday when dozens of hikers, including children, entered the southern part of Tal without prior coordination, leading to a violent confrontation with local residents. The clash escalated when a Palestinian assailant seized a soldier's weapon and fatally shot him. In the ensuing firefight, two attackers were killed, and all weapons involved were recovered by the IDF.

Security forces have intensified their efforts with ongoing arrest campaigns targeting suspects involved in incitement and terrorism. Over the past week, more than 80 wanted individuals were detained across Judea and Samaria, including Hamas operatives and those involved in stone-throwing and bomb-making. The heightened tensions in the region are attributed to Iranian influence, arms smuggling, and increased friction.

In response to the attack and to restore calm, curfews have been imposed on the villages of Tal and Burin, and the IDF is preparing for a broad, focused counterterrorism operation in Nablus and throughout the West Bank. The military continues to conduct raids, interrogations, and weapons seizures as part of these efforts.
