IDF Reinforces Forces in West Bank Amid Rising Jewish Terror Concerns

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are significantly increasing their presence in the West Bank due to escalating concerns over rising Jewish nationalist violence and terrorism. This decision follows a special security briefing convened by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, attended by Defense Minister and IDF Chief of Staff, where senior Central Command officials presented recommendations to address the volatile situation. The security establishment warned of a potential loss of control in the region, driven by illegal outposts and growing violent incidents, despite a decline in Palestinian terrorism attributed to effective Shin Bet and military operations.

The IDF is deploying over 26 battalions to the area to curb the surge in Jewish extremist attacks, which have intensified in both frequency and severity. Measures proposed to Netanyahu include expanding police arrests, imposing fines and economic sanctions, and efforts to prevent tacit support from some government members toward the rioters, which is seen as fostering a permissive environment for violence. Recent footage from south Mount Hebron showed settlers allegedly breaking into a Palestinian home and stealing property, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Security officials have expressed ongoing concerns about insufficient tools to combat Jewish terrorism, emphasizing the increasing volatility on the ground. The IDF Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, explicitly warned about the risk of losing control over the West Bank, underscoring the urgency of the reinforced security measures.
