Zehava Shaul, Mother of Fallen Israeli Soldier Oron Shaul, Passes Away
Zehava Shaul, mother of the late Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul, passed away, the Jordan Valley Regional Council announced on Friday morning. Oron Shaul's body was captured in Gaza during the 2014 Operation Protective Edge and was returned to Israel about a year ago through a joint operation by the IDF and Shin Bet. For years, Zehava and her family fought persistently to retrieve their son's body, which was held by Hamas while he was considered missing in action. Oron's father, Hertzel Shaul, died from a serious illness before he could witness his son's return to Israel. Zehava had been battling cancer in recent years. Her funeral will take place on Sunday at the cemetery in Poria Illit.
The Jordan Valley Regional Council mourned Zehava, a resident of Poria Illit, describing her as a noble woman who fought for over a decade to bring Oron home. She will be buried beside her husband Hertzel and their son Oron, whose first yahrzeit (anniversary of death) was recently observed at the same cemetery. Council head Idan Greenbaum expressed condolences and support to Zehava's sons, Ofek and Aviram. The article also references exclusive coverage about the militant who held Oron's body and his brother's statement expressing a desire to embrace the Goldin family.
