Zehava Shaul, Mother of Sgt. Oron Shaul, Passes Away in Poria Illit
Zehava Shaul, mother of Sgt. Oron Shaul whose body was recovered from Gaza, has passed away, the Jordan Valley Regional Council announced on January 20, 2025. A resident of Poria Illit, she led a decade-long campaign to bring her son’s remains back to Israel for burial. Zehava Shaul will be laid to rest in the local cemetery alongside her late husband Hertzel and her son Oron, shortly after the first anniversary of Oron's burial in Israel was commemorated there.
The Jordan Valley Regional Council expressed deep condolences, describing her as a dear and noble woman. Council head Idan Greenbaum, who supported the family throughout the years, extended his sympathies to Zehava’s sons, Ofek and Aviram. The council stated, "May her memory be blessed," honoring her enduring dedication and strength during the difficult struggle to repatriate her son’s remains.
