Mossad Supports Lifetime Security for Netanyahu Family Alongside Shin Bet
A day after Shin Bet chief David Zini recommended lifetime security for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara, it was revealed that the Mossad, led by Ronen Gofman, also supports this demand. The Mossad's professional opinion, presented to the relevant committee, stated there is an "unlimited period threat" against Netanyahu, his wife, and their children. However, the authority to determine the security level remains with Shin Bet.
The Cabinet Committee on Shin Bet Affairs, chaired by Justice Minister Yariv Levin, approved Zini's recommendation. Alongside Netanyahu and his wife, their children Yair and Avner will receive security for the next five years. Former police intelligence head and MK Yoav Segalovich criticized Zini, saying he "succumbed to the family's whims" and questioned his suitability as Shin Bet chief.
Earlier this week, reports indicated Netanyahu is pushing to extend security arrangements for former prime ministers' families for several years after their terms end. A planned discussion on this was postponed due to objections from the National Security Council regarding certain security provisions. Last year, the Cabinet Committee secretly approved increased overseas security for Netanyahu's family and other ministers, following efforts by Netanyahu to expand security coverage. Previous attempts to formalize this in government meetings faced opposition from Shin Bet and criticism from ministers targeting the judiciary system.
