Shin Bet Chief Approves Lifetime Security for Sara Netanyahu Following Her Request
Shin Bet Chief David Zini has approved a request by Sara Netanyahu, wife of the Israeli Prime Minister, for lifetime personal security. This decision was reported by Channel 13 News on Wednesday evening, revealing that the agency's professional assessment was altered due to pressure exerted by Sara Netanyahu on Yossi Sheli, Director-General of the Prime Minister's Office. In addition to lifetime protection for Sara Netanyahu, the security detail for the couple's children, Yair and Avner Netanyahu, was extended for an additional five years.
For the security arrangements to be implemented, approval from the Ministerial Committee on Shin Bet Affairs is now required. Last year, this committee secretly approved increased security for the Netanyahu family abroad, as well as for other ministers. The expansion of the Netanyahu family's security was the result of efforts by Prime Minister Netanyahu, who previously attempted to extend protection during a government meeting. However, that proposal faced criticism from Shin Bet and was challenged by ministers during a debate focused on judicial system criticism.
