US Military Launches New Wave of Strikes on Iranian Targets Amid Escalating Tensions

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Wednesday afternoon that it has initiated another wave of military strikes against Iranian targets following four consecutive nights of exchanges of fire between the United States and Iran. These strikes aim to further degrade Iranian military capabilities used in recent attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier on Wednesday, CENTCOM reported completing a previous round of strikes targeting Iranian missile and drone sites, naval assets, and coastal defense systems.

Iranian media agency Mehr reported that the US military struck near the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran. In retaliation, Iran launched attacks on Kuwait and Jordan. Kuwaiti fire services confirmed they controlled a fire at one site caused by Iranian strikes, with no casualties reported. Air raid sirens were also heard in Bahrain, and Jordanian authorities intercepted three ballistic missiles outside their airspace.

US President Donald Trump, in a Fox News interview overnight, warned of intensified strikes against Iran, including targeting energy facilities and bridges next week unless Iran returns to negotiations. However, he stated he does not want to negotiate now, accusing Iran of repeatedly breaking deals. Trump emphasized that US military power is the only way to negotiate with Iran and that strikes will continue until he decides otherwise. He also mentioned the possibility of a ground operation but indicated others would conduct it if necessary.

Simultaneously, the US imposed new sanctions on Iranian individuals, entities, and vessels, enforcing a maritime blockade on the Strait of Hormuz. The US Treasury Department issued a temporary license allowing certain activities such as cargo unloading and safety measures related to the sanctioned parties. The US military stated that over 20 warships and hundreds of aircraft are currently operating across the Middle East, maintaining high readiness and lethality amid the ongoing maritime blockade.

This escalation marks a significant intensification of US-Iran tensions, with both sides conducting military actions and Iran retaliating against Gulf states allied with the US. The situation remains volatile as the US signals continued pressure and potential further strikes in the coming days.
