US Strikes Iranian Military Sites Amid Escalating Tensions in Strait of Hormuz
The conflict between the United States and Iran has intensified for the fourth consecutive night following the US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. On Wednesday morning, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it had completed another wave of strikes targeting Iranian missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, and coastal defense systems. Iranian news agency Mehr reported that the US attacks also hit the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran.
In retaliation, Iran launched attacks on Kuwait and Jordan. Kuwaiti fire services reported controlling a fire at one site after Iranian strikes, with no casualties reported. Air raid sirens were heard in Bahrain, and Jordan intercepted three ballistic missiles outside its airspace.
US President Donald Trump, in a Fox News interview overnight, stated that the US would continue to strike Iran "very hard" on energy facilities and bridges unless Iran returns to negotiations. However, he said he did not want to negotiate immediately, accusing Iran of repeatedly breaking deals. Trump emphasized that US military power was the only way to negotiate with Iran and claimed the US had achieved its objectives, warning that Iran would take 20 years to rebuild if the US withdrew now.
The US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz took effect overnight, accompanied by new sanctions on Iranian individuals, entities, and vessels. The US Treasury issued a temporary license allowing certain operations like cargo unloading and safety measures despite the sanctions. Explosions were reported in Bandar Abbas and Bushehr in Iran. Kuwait activated its air defenses against hostile targets, and Iran reported a US missile strike near water and power stations on Qeshm Island, with additional explosions on Qeshm and in Bushehr.
