British Gaza War Documentary Nominated for International Emmy Award

A British documentary titled "Breaking Ranks: Inside Israel's War," which examines the conflict in Gaza through the testimonies of Israeli soldiers, has been nominated for an International Emmy Award in the current affairs category. The film, initially aired on Britain's ITV channel in 2025 and directed by Ben Zand, features interviews conducted by Israeli-based co-director Matan Cohen. The documentary includes allegations from soldiers concerning the army's practices in Gaza, with claims of harm to civilians and the use of Palestinians as human shields. It is currently available online via YouTube and Apple TV in the UK.

The nomination arrives amid controversy surrounding another film, "NAZA," by Israeli directors Yuval Avraham and Rachel Shor. "NAZA" also uses anonymous testimonies from alleged Israeli military and intelligence personnel, asserting that artificial intelligence systems were employed in targeting processes in Gaza. The Israeli military (IDF) has strongly denied these claims, stating that strike decisions are made by humans, not AI. "NAZA" previously won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Other productions focusing on Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict have also received nominations for the International Emmy Awards. These include the BBC documentary "The Settlers," by Louis Theroux, which explores Jewish residents in Judea and Samaria, and Al Jazeera's "Missing in Gaza," a documentary project about individuals missing in the Gaza Strip, nominated in the news category. The winners of the International Emmy Awards, which honor television programs produced and initially aired outside the United States, will be announced on November 23 in New York.
