Three Israel-Related Documentaries Nominated for International Emmy Awards

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced the nominations for the 2026 International Emmy Awards, with three productions focusing on Israel or the Gaza conflict receiving nods. Notably, no Israeli productions were nominated this year. The winners will be announced on November 23 in New York.

In the Current Affairs category, "Breaking Ranks: Inside Israel’s War," a British documentary by Zandland for ITV, is nominated. The film, which aired in the UK in November 2023 and is available on YouTube, features testimonies from IDF soldiers and reservists who served in Gaza. According to The Guardian, the documentary includes allegations of firing on civilians, using Palestinians as human shields, and indiscriminate bombing. The IDF, in a statement released at the time of the film's broadcast, asserted that it operates in accordance with its legal and moral obligations, prohibits the use of civilians as human shields, and investigates claims of misconduct.

Also nominated is "Louis Theroux: The Settlers" in the Documentary category, where the British filmmaker Louis Theroux meets Israeli settlers in the West Bank. Qatar's Al Jazeera network received a nomination in the News category for "Missing in Gaza," which focuses on the search for missing persons in the Strip.

These nominations come amid ongoing international discussion surrounding the documentary "No Other Land," by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Shore. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, received a special jury prize and significant applause, sparking strong reactions in Israel, where the government is reportedly preparing an official international response.

While no Israeli productions are nominated this year, Israel has had previous success at the International Emmys. Last year, "Bad Boy" was nominated for Best Drama Series, "Tehran" won in the same category in 2021, and "Nevsu" won for Best Comedy Series in 2018.
