British Film on IDF Gaza Operations Nominated for International Emmy Amid Controversy

A British documentary film examining the Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) operations in Gaza has been nominated for an International Emmy Award in the Current Affairs category. Titled "Breaking Ranks: Inside Israel’s War," the film, which aired on the UK's ITV network in November 2025, features testimonies from soldiers who served in the Gaza Strip, including reservists and veterans. These individuals reportedly raise allegations concerning civilian harm and the alleged use of Palestinians as human shields, while describing the forces' operational methods.

The nomination comes amidst ongoing controversy surrounding an Israeli film, "NezA," by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Shor, which also presents claims about IDF actions in Gaza based on military personnel testimonies and recently received a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival. Following "NezA's" recognition, Israel's Culture Minister Miki Zohar called for an examination of the creators' citizenship and the sources used in their film, while the IDF rejected the claims made in it. The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominations on Wednesday.

"Breaking Ranks" is listed as a nominee representing the United Kingdom. Other nominees in relevant categories include Louis Theroux's documentary "The Settlers," which focuses on Israeli settlements and is nominated for Best Documentary, and Al Jazeera's report "Missing in Gaza," nominated in the News category.

The winners of the International Emmy Awards will be announced in New York on November 23. Israeli productions have previously won International Emmys, with the drama series "Tehran" securing an award in 2021.
