Hapoel Jerusalem Basketball Club Launches New Season, Addresses Roster Changes

Hapoel Jerusalem basketball club held its 2026-27 season launch event at the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem, just one week before its EuroCup campaign begins. Head coach Sasa Djordjevic, who led the team's summer recruitment, expressed his satisfaction with the team's progress, stating, "We are building day by day and improving every day." He also addressed the search for a replacement for injured player Jared Harper, noting that "options are being considered and a decision needs to be made soon."

When asked about Lorenzo Brown, a player for rival Maccabi Tel Aviv, Djordjevic called him "an excellent player." Captain Yuval Sussman, returning from a minor injury, confirmed he is fit to play in the upcoming Friday game against Bnei Herzeliya in the Winner's Cup quarterfinals. He expressed relief that his injury was not more serious after a long layoff.

Co-owner Gal Mekel discussed the club's rebranding under the slogan "Devotion Inspires," emphasizing efforts to cultivate a new generation of fans and engage with the community. Key initiatives include supporting a wheelchair basketball team, partnering with a foundation for soldiers with PTSD, and a program to combat school bullying by having players and staff speak at schools. The club also announced the appointment of Pepi Turgeman as its first ambassador and plans to establish a Hall of Fame and museum.

Player Shea Miltion spoke about adapting to a new environment, stressing the importance of an open mind, staying true to oneself, and focusing on the team's vision. He highlighted the positive impact of his teammates and the passionate fan base in driving the team forward.
