Hapoel Jerusalem Basketball Club Launches New Season, Addresses Roster Changes

Hapoel Jerusalem Basketball Club held a launch event for its 2026-27 season at the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem, ahead of their upcoming EuroCup campaign. Head coach Sasa Obradovic, who has overseen significant roster changes this summer, expressed his satisfaction with the team's progress, stating, "We are building day by day and improving every day." He also confirmed that the team is actively seeking a replacement for player Jared Harper, with a decision expected soon.

When asked about Lorenzo Brown, Obradovic described him as an "excellent player." Captain Yovel Sussman, returning from a minor injury, confirmed he is fit to play in the upcoming Winner Cup quarter-final against Bnei Herzliya on Friday and the European opener against Rostock on Tuesday. Sussman noted his initial concern about the injury but is now feeling well.

Co-owner Gal Mekel discussed the club's rebranding under the slogan "Devotion Inspires," emphasizing their commitment to developing a new generation of fans and engaging with the community. Key initiatives include supporting a wheelchair basketball team, partnering with an organization aiding soldiers with PTSD through basketball, and a program to combat school bullying by having players and staff speak to students.

The club also announced the return of Pepi Turgeman as its first ambassador and plans to establish a Hapoel Hall of Fame and museum to honor the brand's 80-year history. Player Shea Miletic shared his perspective on joining a new team, stressing the importance of an open mind, staying focused on the vision, and the positive impact of being surrounded by like-minded individuals and passionate fans.
