Lorenzo Brown Nears Return to Israel with Hapoel Jerusalem

Veteran guard Lorenzo Brown, 36, is reportedly close to signing with Hapoel Jerusalem after two seasons abroad. Brown previously played for Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he was a key player, earning All-EuroLeague honors and winning championships. He left Maccabi after the October 7th attacks.

Brown then signed a lucrative three-year deal with Panathinaikos Athens, but his time there was marked by inconsistent playing time and a difficult adjustment to coach Ergin Ataman's rotation. Despite flashes of his former self, he struggled to find a consistent role, averaging limited minutes, particularly in crucial playoff games.

Following his stint in Greece, Brown moved to Olimpia Milano, where injuries and coaching changes further hampered his season. New coach Giuseppe Poeta reportedly sought a different style of guard, leading to Brown's absence from the team for the last eight months, making him a free agent.

Hapoel Jerusalem is reportedly offering Brown a significant role as their primary point guard for the upcoming season, filling in for Jared Harper who is expected to return from injury between November and February. The team's roster, featuring big men like Kenny Lofton Jr., is seen as a good fit for Brown's playmaking abilities, particularly his skill in operating with taller players.

While Brown may have lost some of his previous athleticism and scoring prowess, his experience and ability to orchestrate the offense are expected to stabilize the team. He is seen as a reliable option to connect the team's pieces and provide a different dynamic than Harper, especially during Harper's absence.
