Israeli Man Killed in Terror Attack Buried Near West Bank Settlement

Hundreds of mourners gathered in the settlement of Alei Zahav on the night of Tuesday, September 22, following the funeral of 48-year-old Netanel Shachron. Shachron was killed in a terrorist attack near the Ein Raya spring, close to Neve Tzuf, shortly after Yom Kippur concluded.

The funeral procession began around 10:30 PM, with the burial taking place at the Alei Zahav cemetery. Shachron is survived by his wife, Meirav, and their six children. His 16-year-old son, Yoav, was present during the attack and recounted how his father managed to warn him of the danger, saving his life.

Meirav Shachron also emphasized her husband's final act of heroism in alerting their son. Among the attendees at the funeral were Major General Avi Bluth, commander of the Central Command; Brigadier General Kobi Heller, commander of the Judea and Samaria Division; Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich; and Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu.

Shachron had been at the Ein Raya spring with his elder son on the morning of September 20 for ritual purification before Yom Kippur when the assailant opened fire. Shachron sustained critical injuries and later died at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva. His son was unharmed.

The attacker fled the scene but was wounded during a pursuit by a tracker and later apprehended by Duvdevan unit soldiers at a hospital in Ramallah. Investigations suggest the 37-year-old attacker, who has ties to Hamas, acted alone and had scouted the location beforehand.
