IDF Reveals Hamas Commander Killed Was Involved in Hostage Holdings

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet intelligence agency have revealed that the Hamas commander of the Rafah Brigade, Na'el Abu Abed, who was killed earlier this week in the Gaza Strip, was involved in the abduction and prolonged holding of Israeli soldiers and civilians. Following extensive intelligence research, the agencies determined Abu Abed's complicity in these actions both before and during the current war.

In 2014, when Abu Abed served as the deputy commander of the Rafah Brigade, he participated in the holding of fallen IDF officer Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, who was taken captive by Hamas. Throughout the recent conflict, Abu Abed was also involved in holding several other hostages, including Sergeant Nimrod Cohen, within underground infrastructure in the Rafah area.

The IDF stated that Abu Abed's elimination represents another step in closing a circle, implying a connection to the ongoing efforts to account for Israeli captives. The intelligence gathered highlights the deep involvement of Hamas leadership in the perpetuation of hostage-taking and detention.
